About Sophie Miller, CNM

Certified Nurse-Midwife, lactation consultant, and currently pregnant with my second child. I built these tools because I was tired of seeing expecting parents confused by oversimplified calculators.

My Background

I'm a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) licensed in Oregon, with additional training in lactation consulting and perinatal mental health. I've spent 8+ years working at a birth center in Portland, supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Before becoming a midwife, I worked as a labor and delivery nurse for 4 years. I've attended over 500 births — hospital births, birth center births, and home births. I've seen the full spectrum of pregnancy experiences, from uncomplicated to high-risk.

I'm also a mother. My first child was born in 2019, and I'm currently pregnant with my second (due in September 2026). This pregnancy has been a reminder of how confusing the medical system can be — even for someone who works in it.

Why I Built This Site

I started DueDateTool.org because I was frustrated. Frustrated with online due date calculators that didn't account for cycle length. Frustrated with IVF patients who were given incorrect due dates because their clinics used standard LMP calculators. Frustrated with pregnant people who didn't understand why their due date kept changing.

The calculators on this site are based on clinical guidelines — ACOG for pregnancy dating, ASRM for IVF calculations, WHO for fertility windows. But they're designed to be accessible, not intimidating.

Everything is free. No signup. No data collection. Your information stays on your device. Because pregnancy is personal, and your health data should be private.

My Approach

I believe in evidence-based care with a human touch. That means:

  • Using the best available research to inform recommendations
  • Recognizing that every pregnancy is different
  • Validating the emotional experience of pregnancy — the anxiety, the excitement, the uncertainty
  • Empowering patients with information so they can advocate for themselves

The articles on this blog are a mix of clinical information and personal stories. Some are written after a long shift at the birth center. Others are written at 2 AM when I can't sleep because my back hurts. They're real, imperfect, and honest.
